Yaël Legris (b.1999) is a Tiothiá:ke/Montreal-based figurative painter working in oil and acrylic. Her work explores the emotional landscape of her relationships with others and with herself. She approaches painting as a practice of vulnerability that traces experiences of loss, time, and memory. Informed by an unconventional personal history and early immersion in multiple cultures, her influences span underground rap, early Byzantine and contemporary Japanese art, religion and diverse forms of expression. Often working on wood, her creations draw on the visual power of nature as a means of communication. With a background in illustration and concept art, she creates dream-like atmospheres that evoke the intangible and ephemeral. Currently, she is completing a BFA in Art History & Studio Arts at Concordia University.
